Karla Vigil

Karla works on the district and school design team to develop innovative support structures for the Essential Personalized Learning network. Prior to joining CCE, she was an Education Strategies Specialist with Highlander Institute where she supported the implementation of culturally responsive teaching with blended and personalized learning initiatives in Rhode Island.  She also served as a 4th grade teacher dedicated to broadening students' perspectives through multicultural and social justice education. Karla is a Deeper Learning Equity Fellow committed to promoting equity in education. 

She helped found EduLeaders of Color Rhode Island, a statewide initiative that challenges inequities in education, strengthens local organizations led by people of color, and fosters community partnerships.  Karla leads workshops on culturally responsive teaching, and diversity and equity in education. She earned her B.A. from the University of Rhode Island and her M.A. in Teaching with a focus on social justice and multicultural education from Roger Williams University through the Gordon Teacher Residency Program.
