What is the Equity Fellowship?

In 2015, the Deep Learning Equity Fellowship (DLEF) was launched as a collaboration between Big Picture Learning and the Internationals Network for Public Schools to further the focus on deep, learner-centered education rooted in an ongoing quest for transformative equity-based practice that creates new and more effective systems and practices. The 18-month program supports Fellows, as individuals and as a cohort/community of practice, in accessing their individual “leadership soul” (or identity), as they identify and address dimensions of deep learning that all learners should experience, particularly those students who historically have had limited or no access to such learning.

Nearly 100 fellows have completed the Deep Learning Equity Fellowship program and have implemented over 90 capstone projects, each aimed at disrupting inequities in education.

Announcing Nomination & Application Window for Cohort 7

The Deep Learning Equity Fellowship is an immersive 18-month, cohort-based leadership development journey. It equips fellows with the tools and strategies to address equity challenges in their local communities and school systems. The journey includes three week-long, in-person learning convenings, three virtual convenings, and continuous engagement through small group (pod) conversations. Fellows collaborate, reflect, and build toward a capstone project designed to create meaningful and actionable change in advancing equity within their unique contexts.

The deadline to nominate a potential fellow and apply for the seventh cohort of Equity Fellows is January 31, 2025.
