Sasha Douglas

Sasha Douglas serves as Assistant Superintendent of Capitol Region Education Council  Schools (CREC), a district of 16 interdistrict magnet schools in Hartford, CT.  In this role, Sasha is involved in all areas of district leadership, with a particular focus on Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment.

With over 20 years of experience as an educator, Sasha joined CREC in 2011 as the principal of Metropolitan Learning Center for Global & International Studies (MLC), a CREC magnet school serving students in grades 6-12. Under Sasha’s leadership MLC successfully adopted the IB for All approach which gives all students equitable access to the rigorous college prep curriculum in the International Baccalaureate program.  Having high expectations has been a hallmark of Sasha’s work and helped make MLC one of the top schools in the region for college acceptance and retention.

Sasha is currently a student at the University of Connecticut where she is pursuing her doctorate in Educational Leadership, with a research focus on immigrant mothers and their experiences with their children’s schools. She received her undergraduate degree from Brown University, where she majored in Africana Studies. Upon discovering her passion for teaching, she continued her education at Brown University, earning her Master of Arts degree in Teaching, with a focus on Secondary Education in Social Studies.

Sasha’s own experience immigrating from Jamaica and going on to attend Brown University is a driving force in her belief that all children are capable, and that school systems have a responsibility to foster their potential.  Before joining CREC, Sasha was a part of the founding team for the high school program of Innovation Academy Charter School in Massachusetts.  Prior to her work in leadership, Sasha taught both middle school and high school, with teaching experience in the areas of English, humanities, social studies and special education.

Sasha enjoys reading, listening to music and traveling. She has three children and a Goldendoodle and resides in West Hartford, CT.
