Carola Suárez-Orozco is a Professor of Human Development and Psychology at UCLA. Her areas of research include educational achievement among immigrant origin youth, immigrant family separations, the role of mentors in facilitating youth development, the effects of unauthorized status on developing youth, gendered experiences of immigrant youth, the experiences of immigrant origin youth in community college settings as well as civic engagement among emerging adults of immigrant origin. Her books include: Learning a New Land: Immigrant Children in American Society, Children of Immigration, Transformations: Migration, Family Life, and Achievement Motivation Among Latino Adolescents and The New Immigration: An Interdisciplinary Reader. Her recent book Transitions: The Development of the Children of Immigrants received the SRA Best Edited Policy Book Award (2016). She has been awarded an American Psychological Association Presidential Citation for her contributions to the understanding of cultural psychology of immigration and has served as the Chair of the APA Presidential Task Force on Immigration. Dr. Suárez-Orozco is the Editor of the Journal of Adolescent Research and is a Senior Program Associate for the W.T. Grant Foundation. She is a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
