Philip Howard

I am currently in my 3rd Term as a Member of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District Board of Education, located in Newburgh, NY.  We have an enrollment of close to 11,000 students, 1 High School with 3 separate campuses, 2 Middle Schools, 2 K - 8 schools and 7 K -5 schools. We have a very diverse population of students in our District, with a large Title 1 component.

I also serve on the Board of the Newburgh Armory Unity Center, which is an Organization whose mission is to expand opportunities to enable young Scholars to have access to programs that will expose them to Literacy at an early age, thus increasing their chances for success in education at the Elementary School level. I am involved at all levels of the Organization, but I get the most pleasure from knowing that the young scholars are being exposed to a rigorous curriculum, at no cost to them or their families. The fact that we are able to offer the Program for free, because of grants and donations from the Community, and a Chairman of the Board, Mr. William Kaplan, who is “second to none” when it comes to providing the resources to make this dream a reality for the scholars!

I am a staunch Volunteer in my Community and participate in an array of Mentoring Programs for the Boys and Young Men of Color in the City of Newburgh. Being born and raised here in Newburgh, gives me great pleasure in giving back and ensuring that the next generation of scholars are adequately prepared to take on the world and be successful at anything of their choosing!
