Alex Fralin is the Chief of Schools for Secondary Education for the Madison Metropolitan School District in Wisconsin where he is responsible for 18 secondary schools, as well leading a high school reform effort that engages students in charting personalized pathways to postsecondary success.  He has a rich background in facilitating school improvement, as well as coaching and supervising K-12 school leaders. Before arriving in Madison, Alex served as a Deputy Chief of Schools for Chicago Public Schools, where he was responsible for co-leading 28 K-8 schools on the southside of Chicago. He has also worked as the Senior Director of the Aspiring Principals Program and Leadership Coach at New Leaders for New Schools in New York City.  Alex’s heart for serving public school students and families for 20 years in various capacities grew out of his time as a teacher and principal in Brooklyn, NY, where he served 1,100 families from 42 different countries.  This experience fueled his passion for transforming urban schools and supporting principals who lead them.

Born and raised in New England, Alex earned a Bachelor’s degree from Boston University, a master’s degree in education from Bank Street College in New York City, and he is hoping to one day complete his doctorate in educational leadership from Fordham University.  Alex is married to Tamela, an amazing educator, and together they are proud parents of one gregarious daughter, Brooklyn.
